“Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin.”
This is a very powerful scripture, showing us how, as born again Christians, we have been given all power to be set free from sin. If I can offer an example – it is as if we have been given a gift, and upon opening it we are all excited as it is now ours, however we still have the choice to put it in the corner and never use it, or otherwise make the most of this amazing gift! It is the same with our salvation – when we are born again, God sets us free from sin, and that freedom remains, however we need to continue to trust in Christ and ‘hold on’ with faith, to what he has done in our lives. When we talk about freedom for a Christian – the starting point is that initial freedom that comes when we are released from the shackles & slavery of sin! Hallelujah!
